Why obey the law? – Norms, rules and lows: Real world, theory and behavioral experiments

In the winter semester 2013/2014 the Chair of Economic Theory (Prof. Dr. Veronika Grimm) holds the Project Seminar on Behavioral Economics (previously hold by Verena Utikal, Juiorprofessur for Behavioral Economics). The seminar is open to Bachelor and Master Students.
The objective of the seminar is the attempt to answer the broad question “Why people obey the law?”. The term “law” serves as a description of norms. The student will write a seminal paper, in which he will try to link literature and media from different sources. Some of the methods described in the suggested literature are classical theoretical constructs, while other methods are behavioral economical expetiments, neuro-econimcal experiment, psychological experiments, questionnaire data, etc. The student should try to link the findings from the literature to real-world situations and apply the conclusions.

If you are interested in participating, please send a brief application email in advance to Lilia Zhurakhovska (lilia.zhurakhovska@fau.de) or simply attend the first mandatory meeting. Please indicate a ranking of three topics, which you would like to work on (favorite, second best, third best). Once enough students have signed up, you will be informer, which topic you are assigned to. Please be aware that the number of participants is limited. However, there is still a room for a few additional participants. Once you will are assigned a topic and you approve the topic, you are officially registered for the course.
